Mary Anne Harris is a native of Georgia and has been teaching piano in the Greater Milwaukee area since 1990. She has 40 plus years of professional music experience in Georgia, Kentucky, and Wisconsin with emphases in piano teaching and performance along with church music ministry and conducting. She spent two years in Ajloun, Jordan, as a music, art, and physical education teacher. Her college major was in piano performance with a minor in art and organ. Ms. Harris also received her Master’s degree, studying piano with the late Dr. Maurice Hinson (author, Guide to the Pianist’s Repertoire) and taking courses in piano, vocal, and organ pedagogy.
Ms. Harris received the distinguished Milwaukee Civic Music Award for Excellence in Private Studio Instruction, 2010. Many of her students have been winners in various competitions including Civic Music High School Showcase Recital (winning first and second scholarships), Chopin Youth Piano Competition, Wisconsin Music Teachers Association State competitions, and Milwaukee Music Teachers Association Youth Concert Series. The motto for her studio is “striving for excellence and developing well-rounded musicians.” Ms. Harris teaches all ages and encourages students to participate in recital performances each year.
In addition, Ms. Harris has sung with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Chorus, is a fifth degree black belt in tae kwon do, practices CrossFit, and enjoys reading, writing, and traveling.
